CrimpLab Privacy Policy
Short version: CrimpLab has no account and no server of its own. Your training data, board photos and settings are stored only on your device. We do not sell your data, run no advertising, and the app includes no analytics or crash-reporting service. The only network use is checking for app updates, plus whatever you choose to turn on or share yourself, such as Apple Health or a backup file.
This Privacy Policy describes how Vedware ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the CrimpLab mobile application ("CrimpLab" or the "App") on iOS and Android.
By using CrimpLab, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
1. Who we are
CrimpLab is published by Vedware. Privacy-related information is available at crimplab.vedware.com.
2. Information stored on your device
Information you enter in CrimpLab stays on your device in local app storage. This includes:
- Training sessions — each hang with its hold, grip, load, result, timing, effort rating and notes
- Strength tests and the grades you enter
- Your bodyweight and finger-pain check-ins
- Protocols, workouts and plans you create or edit
- Fingerboards you add, with their photos and hold layouts
- Your bands and your settings, such as units, sounds, reminders and theme
We do not operate a CrimpLab account or sync service, and this information is not uploaded to our servers as part of normal App use.
3. Everything is calculated on your device
The timer, load suggestions, strength benchmarks, progress charts and plan logic all run on your device and need no network access.
4. Board photos and the camera
CrimpLab asks for camera access only when you choose to photograph a fingerboard. You can instead pick an existing picture with the system photo picker, which does not give the App access to your whole library. The photo is cropped and stored in the App's own storage on your device and is not uploaded anywhere. It is included in a backup file only if you export one.
If you turn on background removal for a board photo, the image is processed on your device. On iPhone this uses Apple's Vision framework. On Android it uses Google's on-device ML Kit subject segmentation through Google Play services, which may download its model once, under Google's own terms. The photo itself is not sent to that service.
5. Apple Health (iOS, optional)
Apple Health is off until you turn on "Sync with Apple Health" in Settings. If you do, CrimpLab can save each session to Health as a workout, read your heart rate during a session, and read your bodyweight to prefill your own. This data stays on your device and in your Health data. We do not receive it, and we do not use it for advertising or share it with third parties. You can change or revoke access at any time in the Health app under Sharing → Apps → CrimpLab.
6. Notifications, Live Activity and on-screen alerts
CrimpLab uses local notifications only. They are scheduled on your device for timer phase alerts, training-day reminders, a recovery reminder and an idle-session reminder, and none of them involves a server or a push service. The Live Activity on iPhone and the ongoing notification on Android show your current session on the lock screen and are also generated locally. You can turn reminders off in Settings or in your system settings.
7. Backups, exports and sharing
Export backup, Export hangs as CSV and Share plan create a file on your device and open your system's share sheet. The file goes only where you send it, or nowhere if you cancel. Once shared, it is handled under the privacy policy of the app or service you chose, not ours. Import backup reads a file you pick from your device.
8. App updates
CrimpLab may check for over-the-air updates through Expo Application Services (EAS Updates). When the App checks for updates, Expo may receive basic technical information such as app version, platform, and update channel so the correct update can be delivered. This does not include your training data, photos or health data.
9. Analytics and crash reporting
CrimpLab does not currently include an analytics or crash-reporting service, and it does not include any advertising SDK. If that changes, we will update this policy and its effective date before the change ships.
10. What we do not collect
CrimpLab is designed to avoid unnecessary data collection. In normal use, we do not:
- Require you to create an account
- Store your training data or photos on our servers
- Sell your personal information
- Use your data for advertising
- Track your location
- Use the microphone
11. How we use information
We use the limited information described above to provide the App's features on your device and to deliver app updates.
12. How we share information
We do not sell or rent your personal information. The only service provider involved in normal use is Expo, for delivering app updates, under its own privacy terms. Anything you share through the share sheet goes to the app you choose, not through us.
We may also disclose information if required by law, legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of users or others.
13. Data retention
Your data remains on your device until you delete it or uninstall the App. Because we do not receive it, we cannot retrieve it for you: keep your own backup if you want a copy.
14. Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict certain processing of your personal information. Because CrimpLab data is stored locally, you can usually exercise these rights directly in the App or on your device by:
- Editing or deleting individual sessions, boards, protocols and plans
- Exporting your data as a backup or CSV
- Leaving Apple Health, reminders and the camera switched off
- Uninstalling the App
15. Children's privacy
CrimpLab is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
16. Not medical advice
CrimpLab is a training log and timer. Protocols, load suggestions, strength benchmarks and recovery reminders are general information based on limited research and are not medical, physiotherapy, coaching, or other professional advice. Hangboarding can injure fingers and tendons. Warm up, stop if you feel sharp pain, and consult a qualified professional about any injury or before starting a new training programme.
17. International users
Update delivery is operated through a service provider that may process limited technical data in the United States or other countries. By using the App, you understand that this information may be transferred to and processed in countries with different data protection laws than your own.
18. Security
We take reasonable measures to protect information processed by our service providers. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure. You are responsible for access to your device, where your training data is stored.
19. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the effective date at the top of this page. Material changes may also be communicated in the App or on our website where appropriate.
